The Brief

The Brief

This post shows evidence of me understanding the brief. A brief is a set of instructions or a summary of key ideas of what needs to be completed in order to complete the task. In this film industry, a brief is an outline of a clients needs and what they want within a product and can include vague ideas or specific requirements for a product. This is important to follow if you want to satisfy a client/employer and most of the time, must not be disobeyed. I did this to ensure that I had a clear understanding of what type of film to create, in order to satisfy to needs of the client/employer. This will make my final product, more appealing to those who watch it, now that I know the intended audience for the film. After thoroughly reading and understanding the brief, I now understand that I need to both conform to and subvert to conventional genre codes and conventions of my chosen film genre, in order to make my short film or film extract suitable for a 'film genre season'. I also need to ensure that my knowledge of the production and post-production process is great enough to effectively produce and manage a film project where the capability to use filming equipment and editing software is essential. In addition, because the brief has informed me that the intended audience for this 'film genre season' is most likely people passionate about film and may already subscribe to the Jinjasnap channel, I feel that in order to stand out from other short films or film extracts, it is necessary to be creative and unique within my final product.

The Brief

I am part of the creative team at Jinajsnap, an independent film production company, and have been asked to create a short narrative film or film extract that will be broadcasted on the Jinjasnap YouTube channel. The short film or film extract that I produce will be then shown during the upcoming 'film genre season'. As the event is based on genre, it is essential to use generic and recognisable genre codes and conventions, either through conforming to these conventions or by subverting to them. As a part of this task, I will need to gather the necessary material needed, such as props, costume, makeup and equipment and then create the necessary production material such as shots and sound using actors, extras and a filming crew. In order to do this successfully and efficiently, I will need to prepare and direct each cast and crew member in a professional and organised manner. In addition to this, it is also my responsibility to manage different elements whilst filming, such as camerawork, lighting and capturing sound that will all contribute to the creation of the final product. After the filming process, it will also be my responsibility to refine these elements through post-production techniques which will finalise and enhance the generic codes and conventions that will produce a distinctive fictional film.
